Debilitating Demons that Detour Your Destiny

Detour Sign

SCRIPTURE:

“Then the whole community began weeping aloud, and they cried all night.” Numbers 14:1

MESSAGE:

After four hundred thirty years of slavery and two scorching and difficult years in the desert, one would think that the children of Israel would be more than a little anxious to cross over into their Promised Land. It was called, “the land flowing with milk and honey,” because of the favorable agriculture conditions. The people had spent day after day, week after week, and month after month eating the same food, carrying the same supplies and viewing, pretty much, the same scenery. “Time to move!” “Time to camp!” “Time to move!” I don’t know about you, but I would be looking forward to a little time in my own man-cave. Instead, the people began to weep and complain about the prospect of going in. The consensus was that it would be better for them to go back to being slaves in Egypt rather than enter into the promise they had left Egypt for in the first place. Preach Something I Want to Hear!

SCRPreacherIPTURE:

“But Jehoshaphat dragged his heels: ‘Is there still another prophet of GOD around here we can consult?’ The king of Israel told Jehoshaphat, ‘As a matter of fact, there is still one such man. But I hate him. He never preaches anything good to me, only doom, doom, doom.’”1 Kings 22:7-8 (MSG)

MESSAGE:

In his book “Corporate Anointing,” Author and Minister Kelley Varner wrote, “For the most part, American Christendom is entertainment-based, need-oriented, and man-centered.” It would seem that little has changed in the over two and a half millennia since today’s scripture. King Ahab was looking for someone to bless his plans and convince Jehoshaphat, King of Judah, that God supported the idea to attack the King of Syria and take Ramoth-gilead. With very little effort, he gathered about 400 Prophets who were willing to say exactly what he wanted to hear. When he asked them if he should attack, the Prophets replied with one voice, “Go up; for the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king.” (v.6) Continue reading “Preach Something I Want to Hear!”

Do You Know the Truth – Part 2

SCRIPTURE:

“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”   John 8:32 (NLT)

MESSAGE:

If you are like me, you have heard this passage of scripture quoted hundreds, if not thousands, of times over the years. It’s one of those verses that migrate outside the sermon zone and into everyday conversation – even among those that are not Christian. Unfortunately, the real truth of what Jesus said is often lost in the sound bite. Continue reading “Do You Know the Truth – Part 2”

Do You Know the Truth? Part 1

True, False, Not SureSCRIPTURE:

“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”   John 8:32 (NLT)

MESSAGE:

Plato wrote, “When the mind’s eye rests on objects illuminated by truth and reality, it understands and comprehends them, and functions intelligently: but when it turns to the twilight world of change and decay, it can only form opinions, its vision is confused and its beliefs shifting, and it seems to lack intelligence.” (Republic)
